The Corporate Security and Cyber Security function under the IT department have traditionally operated under separate organization structure and governance models. The collaboration between these two functions was limited and in some cases non-existent. The physical security technologies and solutions have gone through a major transformation toward IP based technology in the last decade thereby adding a large number of IP enabled sensors like cameras and controllers that are part of corporate network and must be hardened to limit exposure from cyber-attacks. In this session, we will discuss how corporations can reorganize and effectively collaborate between the two key functions in creating a comprehensive security strategy and plan for protecting physical and cyber assets in a threat landscape that is continuously evolving.

Werner Cooreman, CPP, PSP
SVP – Group Security Director, SOLVAY

Werner is the Senior Vice President – Group Security Director for the Solvay Group, a global chemical manufacturer. Previously, he held international security roles in Supply Chain and Logistics and Critical Infrastructure. Prior to his 17 years in security management in the private industry, he was a career officer in the Belgian Military for 20 years (Infantry, Recon, LRRP), where he participated in several assignments with the United Nations and NATO during the Balkan Wars in the nineties. His expertise covers a broad range of security expert areas, but he is mainly focused on establishing and developing the security function in complex international business environments. He is an active member in several professional security associations, and holds a Master in Military Sciences from the Belgian Royal Military Academy, a certificate in Terrorism Studies from St Andrews University, as well as other professional security certifications across multiple domains of security.

Neel Adhikari
Group Physical Security Manager, SOLVAY

Neel is the Group Physical Security Manager for the Solvay Group, a global chemical manufacturer. He is currently leading and implementing physical security programs and projects that align with corporate security goals and standards and enable the chemical plants and facilities to lower security risk and improve protection of people and assets. He has been in the security industry for more than 16 years and has previously led business operations of a nationally recognized security software and solutions provider. Leading global organizations and functions, managing complex programs and technology driven projects related to physical security, conducting security assessments, security technology change management, and developing global partnerships and collaborative models have been his areas of focus in the recent years. He has graduate degrees in business management and information systems management, and undergraduate degree in chemical engineering.
