Mr. Michael (Mike) Clayton is the training and program manager and senior case officer for Kidnap, Ransom, and Extortion (KR&E) incident response team, as well as the Crisis Assistance Team leader for the Crisis Assistant Program (CAP) covered events. He has over 28 years of senior-level crisis management experience.
Mike has been involved in the response to and successful resolution of crisis events involving
kidnap for ransom and extortion, threat assessment, malicious or accidental product tamper investigations, security awareness, and crisis management planning. He has successfully resolved
kidnap for ransom & extortion matters in the Americas, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
Prior to Mike’s own company, Mike managed several of the largest KR&E consultancies responsible for global response to crisis events. During his time providing response service to clients, Mike managed and/or supervised a team to successfully respond to over 200+ kidnap for ransoms cases, 350+ extortions cases, and 10+ product recall / contaminations cases.
Mike’s responsibilities include leading a company’s or family’s efforts to evaluate the effectiveness of the clients’ crisis response protocols; crisis communications; security awareness and preventative measures; and actual response to global crisis events. Mike is fluent in Spanish and conversational in Portuguese.
Patricia G. Coureas, CPP
Patricia has a global background in high-risk, complex domestic and international environments with both Government and private-sector experience. Patricia served 30 years as an FBI Special Agent and Assistant Legal Attaché in Greece conducting criminal, counterintelligence and counterterrorism investigations while building relationships with law enforcement and security services around the globe with host countries. Patricia’s transition into a Senior Security Manager role with a Fortune 500 Company provided numerous opportunities to deliver threat prevention and resolution to the global business system and to strengthen incident management and crisis resolution programs through scenario-based exercises. Patricia has experience delivering innovative, strategic solutions to build threat detection and increase response capabilities around Enterprise Risk Management, Intellectual Property Protection, Cybersecurity and Workplace Violence Prevention. As a Business Process Analyst, Patricia attained her Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification in May 2023 demonstrating success in addressing problems by identifying the root causes and implementing solutions to mitigate the causes in order to ensure strategic and financial benefit to the business.
Patricia has an active role in American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) and earned her Certified Protection Professional (CPP) credential in April 2022. In early 2023, ASIS HQ selected Patricia to co-instruct the CPP Review Course prior to GSX 2023 in Dallas, Texas. Patricia presented a session titled, ‘A Roadmap for the Design and Implementation of Pre-Crisis Training and Procedures’, at GSX 2022. Patricia currently participates in ASIS International’s Turning Pages Podcast with numerous, distinguished security leaders.
Mark Courtney

Between 2001 and 2011 Mark was the sole resident kidnap for ransom responder on the African continent on behalf of Clayton Consultants Inc. and Triple Canopy Inc., premier global crisis management companies. He led the in-country crisis management teams and secured the release of over 50 kidnap victims with zero death or dismemberment.
Mark became a member of the South African Police Reserve in 1989 and retired as Head of the elite Endangered Species Protection Unit (ESPU) Reserve with the rank of Captain.
The ESPU’s mandate was to protect national fauna, flora and significant artefacts targeted by local and foreign criminal syndicates. This included counter poaching duties in National Parks, covert surveillance and investigations.
Mark has been an international speaker since 2001 addressing amongst other organizations The Energy Security Council (Houston, USA) on Kidnapping in Africa and ASIS International on Kidnapping and Terrorism Threats (San Diego, USA), Kidnapping and Security Threats in Africa (Paris, France) and The Risk to Business in Africa (Beijing, China).
Mark is the recipient of the Rotary International Paul Harris Fellowship Award for outstanding community service.
